Improve your Internet Surfing Experience

Internet surfing experience can be affected by following reasons. Check your software/hardware environment to improve your Internet surfing experience.

Internet access via Wireless LAN

According to the standard set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), you must use devices with an 802.11n specification or above to support transmission speeds above 50Mbps. Also, the data transmission speed of a wireless network is easily affected by spatial separation, band overlay and other interference. It is recommended that a wired connection being used when testing Internet speed. Furthermore, use a wired connection will also improve your Internet surfing experience.

Low performance of network devices

Broadband router, switch or hub with poor performance may affect Internet data transmission speed and stability. Please contact device manufacturer for performance information. We suggest you remove these devices temporarily and connect just one computer to the modem before test your internet speed.

MOD simultaneously powered on or playing

If you applied for our FTTx Internet service, when MOD powered on simultaneously, that shares bandwidth with your Internet connection.

Poor computer performance

When CPU under heavy load, low free main memory space or lack of hard disk space may affect computer network transmission speed.

Multiple computers connect to the Internet simultaneously

When multiple devices (such as computers, webcams and set-top boxes) are sharing broadband connection or transmitting large files (such as uploading/downloading files or using P2P), they all take up bandwidth and affect computer's transmission speed. Connect just one computer to the modem and temporarily unplug any other connected devices from the modem before test your internet speed.

Laptop computers enter power-saving mode

Laptop computers might run at power-saving mode when power line was unplugged. It will result in low system performance and also affects the network transmission speed.

Anti-virus software scans network traffic

Some anti-virus software may scan data which received from the internet in real-time. It may affect data tranmission speed of your computer. Please contact software vendor for the further information about the software behavior.
